How to Use A Condom (Part 5)
The following information is taken from: "A Prospective Study Of Condom Use In Family Planning Clients" by Dr Margaret J. Sparrow and Kay Lavill (December 1993)

  • Try out different condoms. There is a wide range to choose from such as flavoured, coloured, contoured and textured condoms. They also come in different thicknesses - thin, standard and extra strength.

  • For the rare person who has sensitive skin or who has an allergic reaction to latex condoms, non-latex condoms can be used. Although not yet available in New Zealand shops, you can purchase non-latex polyurethane condoms via internet mailorder.

  • If you are using condoms for anal sex, it is best to use a stronger condom and to use a water based lubricant. You can use two standard strength condoms together but some people find that these are more likely to slip off or break.

  • Do think ahead and don't run out of supply. Condoms are available from a variety of outlets - 24 hour service stations, chemists, supermarkets, hotels, vending machines, internet or mail order. Know where you can get your favourite brand.

  • Condoms can be obtained most cheaply on prescription. See your doctor, family planning clinic or sexual health centre.
